Warrier Head
Essence of working with alabaster is to find big blocks with ‘lucky’ veins of colour running through the pale stone. That’s become difficult as so many quarries of hard alabaster are worked out. I search further and further away for the right blocks of stone, for, really, sculpting alabaster is to carve along those veins, bringing the underlying colours to light exactly where you want such contrasts.
The Warrior Head balances on its steel pin so it can be completely turned around while maintaining its horizontal position.
