Hommage aan Leo Gestel III, II en I
Traveling is an inseparable part of Bierenbroodspot’s life, and she is following in the footsteps of her famous uncle Leo Gestel (1881-1941). Gestel traveled with Charley Toorop and Adriaan Lubbers several times through Spain and Italy, where he experimented in expressionist and cubist style. Gestel occupies a prominent place in Dutch art history; he was an important modernist and also the artistic and social director of the Dutch ‘Bergense School’. Horses also played a prominent role in his work. Bierenbroodspot spent much of her childhood in her uncle’s studio where she fell in love with the paint and the craft.
